About Anda
Hi, my name is Anda Yurisich and I'm a Certified Birth Doula! I found my passion for Doula work during my second pregnancy. Our family had been traveling and my daughter was due to be born in the country of Norway. Having limited language skills in Norwegian and no certain options on who might help with our son during birth, I decided to contact a doula for a consultation. During our conversations, I discovered that deep down there were many more reasons why I was looking for reassurance. My first birth experience had not been what I had expected, and my heart was longing for a much more peaceful and harmonic experience. One where I felt in control, safe and my decisions respected. My own journey with my birth doula was so wonderful, that I decided to combine my education in psychology and behavioral therapy with training through Childbirth International (accredited by American Nurses Credentialing Center) to become a Certified Birth Doula myself.
I am passionate about evidence based birth education and expectant management of labor. Expectant management of labor means watching the laboring person's condition closely, while giving them the time and space to labor at their own pace. Expectant management avoids unnecessary interventions, resulting in better birth outcomes and higher satisfaction with birth experience.
My role as a doula is not to replace an ob/gyn, midwife or nursing staff at the hospital. However, the medical staff might not be available for you at home during earlier stages of labor or continuously by your side at a birth center or hospital. That is where a doula comes in. As a doula I can provide emotional and physical support throughout your labor and birth. I can assist with pain management, coping techniques, trying various positions, massage, guidance for birth partners and many more things. A doula is also not meant to replace your partner, rather help them help you. Birth is a powerful experience and my goal is to keep the harmony and family intimacy in it as much as possible.
When you book a class or a birth package with me, you can trust that the information I provide is well researched and balanced. I will not tell you what to do or what is best for you, but I can provide you resources that can help you make informed and autonomous decisions that empower you, whatever your unique situation is. I encourage all of my clients to create a birth plan and can assist you in writing it. While there is no guarantee that everything will go as we imagine or wish, a birth plan helps the people around you follow your wishes as closely as possible.
I suggest all of my clients to prepare for an unmedicated birth, even if you are considering using epidural anesthesia. No birth experience is the same. Sometimes an epidural will work 100%, sometimes it might take some of the pain away but not all, and sometimes they have trouble making it work well at all. Sometimes labor is faster than expected. Sometimes early labor is moving along slowly and the hospital might not admit you until you've made some more progress. All of those are reasons why it is best to learn about labor and natural pain management. It can feel overwhelming and scary, but with the right support you can feel in control and cope with it successfully.
What types of births can I support as a doula? I can provide support in any type of birth. I can assist a Midwife during a home birth or be with you at the hospital. I can provide support during a C-section and during recovery from it. As a doula, however, I am not equipped to support a home birth without a Midwife or free-birthing.
